Excuse Me, Baseball Might Go Back To Montreal, Sowrry

Montreal hasn’t had a baseball team since 2004 but that all might change soon. A group of Montreal investors have met the conditions laid out by Major League Baseball to get a team back in the city, a source has told The Canadian Press. The team that plays in Montreal may be either an expansion team or an existing team.

Montreal

Out of the existing teams that might move to Montreal, two names seem to be the most popular and plausible. Those two teams are the Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland Athletics. Both teams have suffered through poor attendance and stadium conditions. Out of these two, the Rays seem to be the best fit. A new team in Montreal would create an in-division rival with Toronto and keep the competition close in the AL East. Also, Canada is often cold so it would be nice for them to get some Rays.

As far as an expansion team goes, another team would need to be created to keep the league at an even number. Getting to 32 teams would tie the NFL and surpass both the NBA and NHL. Possible destinations for a second team include Las Vegas, Mexico City, San Juan, Vancouver, Charlotte, and Austin. It will be interesting to see how Las Vegas does with both an NHL and NFL team. The MLB might want to hop on that train if they are both successful.

Whatever may happen will be exciting for the MLB, so let’s sit on the chesterfield, grab a Molson, kick up your runners and see what’s next for baseball in Montreal. Sowrry!
