Antonio Senzatela Won For Mom

Stories like this is why I started the “Choke Up” category on this website. Although much of what we write is about the lighter side of baseball, this sport means more than just a game to many of us. There are many stories that make us love it all the more. This is one of those stories.

Antonio Senzatela, pitcher on the Colorado Rockies, lost his mother to breast cancer last July. Sunday, was his first Mother’s Day without her. If this wasn’t tough enough for Senzatela, he was scheduled to start against the high powered offense of the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, there was probably nowhere else that he would rather be than on the mound, playing the game that he loved, in memory of his biggest fan.

If you don’t think he wanted to be on the mound yesterday, just note that four days before his start Senzatela hung up his Mother’s Day jersey and hat in his locker.

Senzatela pitched five innings, struck out five and got the win. As he left after the fifth inning, Senzatela pointed to sky. This win was for mom.
